cactus babe update...

The official count for Escobaria vivipara seedlings growing in the spagnum moss is now officially 14.

Of course, it's quite possible that a few more will sprout anytime over the next few months. Cactus seeds tend to do what they want, when they want... but I'm kinda impressed so far. It'll be interesting to see how they do.

  1. I see that one of the common names of this cactus is spinystar! Sweet name! Do you have mixed varieties here? I see they can have different colors of flowers depending on the variety! I will be so happy to see how they grow and flower! They are really cute right now!!!

  2. Hey julie... these seeds came off the plant that's been growing in the yard for the past few years... if you click on the link at the bottom of the post, you'll see some of it's pink blooms... lucky I saved the seeds, as our extremely wet winter has evidently ruined one of the Heads. I've uprooted the other head, and I think it'll be all right, but it's lost all it's roots, which they tend to do in the winter anyway... I'll repot it this spring and see what happens.

  3. Just like kids, those vivipara. You know, "do what they want, when they want." They keep life interesting. Looking forward to how these seeds progress.
